🚨 #SWPanalysis 🔊 Heel-to-heel across the crease 😳. This is a quick breakdown of the footwork involved in Carl Hagelin’s goal against the Sabres. Notice how he completely opens up his back hip 👌. He uses weight transfer to push across the crease with his back foot and patiently wait for the goalie to be down and out. We post lots of hip opening drills and include a variation in every warmup! Get used to opening those hips, could come in handy 😎 #SkateWithPower ---------------------------------------------------- Follow @skatewithpower for drills and exercises, tested by the pros! ---------------------------------------------------- A post shared by Skate With Power (@skatewithpower) on Dec 4, 2017 at 12:53pm PST

🚨 Why use Lateral Movement❓ 👉 Lateral Movement forces the defender to move side-to-side while you build speed, making you harder to defend! Watch how @bohorvat moves to the middle and then uses crossovers to beat John Tavares wide 👌. Notice how he pulls the puck before moving his feet. This makes it so Tavares can’t reach it 💁. Get used to using crossovers through the neutral zone and pulling the puck first. Horvat keeps his feet moving and finishes by shooting in stride 🙌. These are the plays we want to replicate with our skating. Your back foot is the main source of power, make sure your patient and push it out to the side instead of letting it spin out. 🚨Fun Friday 😎 Need to work on burning players wide? Use those crossovers to create space towards the wall. One or two crossovers to the middle will force the defender to move. Once they bite, pull the puck first and drive wide 💪. This skill is one that you can’t practice enough. Building speed, changing direction, and keeping the puck out of reach. The goal is to make this so natural that everyone in the Rink thinks you’re going to the middle 🙈. 🚨 Work The Wall 🔥 This is a great drill for players looking to work on their quick turns and acceleration from the wall 💪. Aim to keep those feet moving and continue momentum out of your turns. Notice how hard Max works in this sequence. If you aren’t pushing yourself then you won’t see the maximum benefits! Since we’re skating focussed, we run the players through and help them adjust their feet to improve their speed. Focus on that footwork instead of aimlessly flying through this drill over and over. Pay attention to what feels good, and what doesn’t. It’s amazing the adjustments you can make if you truly put in the effort 👌 #SkateWithPower Player: @swelzy25 ---------------------------------------------------- Follow @skatewithpower for drills and exercises, tested by the pros! ---------------------------------------------------- A post shared by Skate With Power (@skatewithpower) on Nov 3, 2017 at 8:20am PDT

🚨 #SWPanalysis 🔊 Learn from @bohorvat how to drive wide with a purpose 💪. This analysis provides a quick breakdown of how his movement draws players and makes them react, as well as the technique of his last crossover before he drives the net. Notice how Bo moves to the middle of the ice and receives the puck while he's crossing his feet to the wall. It's crucial at the top levels to be able to receive passes while moving 👌. He throws in one crossover to the middle of the ice that forces the defender to slide. It may seem subtle from a viewers standpoint, but when a player is moving this fast coming at you then you have to react and take away the middle 🤷♀️. Next you can see how his inside leg lands underneath his shoulder which allows him to generate a long, strong push on his outside edge. He plants his feet and spots the puck before tucking it upstairs 🙌. The @canucks skills coach Glenn Carnegie is one of the best in the game, no doubt he's been putting in some time with Bo! Work on these concepts to make yourself more effective and move on to the next level 🙏 #SkateWithPower ---------------------------------------------------- Follow @skatewithpower for drills and exercises, tested by the pros! ---------------------------------------------------- A post shared by Skate With Power (@skatewithpower) on Oct 8, 2017 at 9:05am PDT

View this post on Instagram A lot to like in this sequence from Gallagher and Tatar 👀. First, watch Gallagher crossover through the neutral zone. As he crosses over to the outside, the defence commits to him and this opens up a passing lane to Tatar 🔥. Second, Tatar stops up and this freezes the goaltender. The big thing we want you to take away from this love though is watch his left foot 😎. We have slowed down the video so it’s easier to see. Notice how his left skate comes all the way around. View this post on Instagram 🚨Generate Speed💥 A beautiful goal from yesterday’s world junior action. A big thing we want to point out in this video is how Ville Petman generates speed down the ice 💥. To start off, he swings low and accelerates with his crossovers. After this watch how he has full recovery on his strides when he skates down the wing, this allows him to generate more power on each push 💪. He sees an opening and crosses over to the other side of the ice. Notice how he gets a strong under push on his crossovers 🙌. The last thing we want to point out his when he goes to protect the puck. Watch how he keeps his left knee forward to protect the puck. Instead of not moving his feet, he gets one final push with his right skate to help him create more speed 👀. We see this happening more and more, players are generating speed in any position that they can. This is why it’s so important to work on all aspects of your skating to be as efficient on your skates as possible 👊. #Skatewithpower ------------------------------------------------- Follow @skatewithpower for drills and exercises, tested by the pros! ---------------------------------------------------- A post shared by Skate With Power (@skatewithpower) on Dec 29, 2019 at 8:11am PST
